Statement

I am interested in the dynamic systems of nature, particularly self- regulating systems, and how they reveal patterns of complexity that emerge from the interconnectivity inherent on all scales of natural phenomena. In my current work I introduce a repetitive element into an environment that has been randomly found on the surface of the work. Formal elements such as mark, color, and form are further introduced, dependent upon and informed by what already exists. This results in a feedback loop of mark-making that builds upon itself, in which my decisions are increasingly less influential as the work unfolds its own autonomy. The work ultimately exists on the precipice of a mysterious, liminal point of transition. The point where molecules of water as a vast collective suddenly know to fundamentally change from liquid to vapor; or when a flock of birds, swarm of bees, or network of neurons collectively begins to think as one.
